Everything you need to build your own TRMNL-style e-ink display. A fun weekend project that looks great on a desk or wall.
In the video above, I walk through how to build your own e-paper display — basically a DIY version of the TRMNL. It's a surprisingly simple project: a Raspberry Pi Zero, a Waveshare e-ink screen, and a micro SD card. That's it.
Once it's set up, you can display anything you want on it — dashboards, calendars, weather, to-do lists, whatever. It's a great little weekend project and looks proper smart sitting on a desk or mounted on a wall.

A 800x480 pixel e-ink display that connects directly to the Raspberry Pi via the GPIO header. No backlight, so it's easy on the eyes and barely uses any power.

The brains of the operation. The Zero 2 W is tiny, cheap, and has built-in Wi-Fi. This kit comes with the official case, which keeps things tidy.

You don't need much storage for this project. An 8GB card is more than enough to run the OS and the display software.
