Three ways to back the channel, and exactly what each one gets you
Everything here is free, and it's staying that way.
Support just lets me be more ambitious with it: bigger builds, kit I'd otherwise never get near, and the room to do a job properly instead of quickly. If the channel's been useful to you and you fancy chipping in, here's what's on offer and what each one gets you. Thanks to everyone who already has — some of the bigger projects only happen because of you.
All prices on this page are in GBP. What you actually pay depends on where you are — currency conversion, local taxes and regional pricing all vary, so check the figure on Ko-fi, YouTube or Patreon before you commit to anything.
A one-off thank you, with no strings
A single, one-off thank you. No subscription, nothing to cancel, and no perks attached — which is entirely the point.
If you've got something useful out of a video or an article and you'd like to say thanks, this is the simplest way to do it. Give what you like, once, and that's the end of it.
It goes straight back into the channel: the gear that gets torn apart on camera, the parts that don't survive the process, and the hosting bills behind this site.
No rewards, no tiers, no ongoing commitment.
Support from where you're already watching
A monthly membership through YouTube itself, so it's handled by the same account you already watch on.
If you'd rather not juggle another account, this is the least fiddly option. It's billed through YouTube alongside everything else you're subscribed to.
£1.99per month
Chipping in each month to keep the channel going, with a role on the Discord server to show for it.
£4.99per month
Everything the Supporter tier does, plus the extras.
Early access isn't guaranteed — it depends on how far ahead I am, which varies. Treat it as a bonus when it happens rather than something to count on.
Pick a level that suits you
The most involved option, and the one with the most on offer. Three tiers, each building on the one before it.
Patreon is where the deeper stuff lives: voting on what gets made next, early access as standard, and at the top tier a seat in the room where videos actually get planned.
£1per month
You're saying thank you, and you're very welcome. You'll get your role on the Discord server.
£5per month
Everything in Lab Assistant, plus a say in what gets made, a head start on watching it, and your name on screen.
£15per month
Everything in Senior Technician, plus a run of the Discord server and a seat at the table.
That's completely fine, and it always will be. Watching to the end, leaving a comment, and passing a video on to someone who'd find it useful all genuinely help — the algorithm pays attention to that sort of thing far more than it pays attention to me.
There's also the shop, if you'd rather get something for your money. That's more buying a thing you want than supporting the channel, but it does help all the same.
